By definition you can’t prevent something after the fact. And even if you imprisoned her for the rest of her life someone would pull the same stunt. It’s why the death penalty doesn’t work.

Now if you want to argue a more substantial sentence involving community service, probation, etc, I hear you. But otherwise we’re just commiting the same wrong in the name of equality.
