I think what some people missed that you seem to understand is that the awkwardness I speak about doesn’t disqualify white people from being happy or proud. What I wanted to do was give perspective from the point of view of the people most affected by these causes and the people who hope to create change on our behalf.

Criticism of white people, in my experience, makes them uncomfortable but ultimately it is the only means for growth and efficacy in aiding the cause.

Some will take my words in offense and decide it’s not worth the effort. That’s fine. They ultimately would have faded away regardless.

The others who weather the discomfort of reflection, those are the ones who matter. Those are the efforts that endure because they are the ones who recognize that the work is as much internal as external.
